Am proud to present my short documentary “A PASSION FOR CHANGE”. I was asked by Tom Bosschaert founder of the company Except integrated sustainability to create a film about a collective of people in the sustainability industry in relation to their collaboration with his company. Basically he wanted a film about the things they do and the people they work with, but not in a way that it becomes your standard corporate film. So at first it was a challenge in which direction we should go with the film and to figure out how we can tell a story about all these different people working on loads of different projects. Together with writer and friend Steve Park we decided to go with a more artistic and emotional approach about what drives these people to do what they do every day. We discovered something they all have in common, their passion for change.

Most of the directing work I do I also edit. Something which can be very convenient depending on the type of project. Though the work that you see on my site is only the work I have directed, which leaves out many films I’ve just edited.
Here are three totally different films I’m proud of.

This is a collaborative project that I’ve done with Parisian Photographer and Director “Raphaël Devynck Sauvillers” for Qeelin.

A commercial that went viral for a wedding dress being so cheap.

Douwe Egberts – Professional

A mood film/ corperate film for Hollands most famous coffee brand.

Last month I was approached by Jeroen from “Lose Your Mind” to direct and edit a low budget commercial for the Cinekid Festival 2015. This is a film festival for kids where they also have loads of workshops, games and fun things to do. I had some time on my hands and decided to learn some After Effects and I must say this worked out pretty well.

In June we made a promo for the CRAFT festival 2015 which is a festival for hard core music. The theme was underground Amsterdam gangster style (Penoze). We made a dramatic piece in black&white which was a great succes on Facebook reaching up to 200.000 views within a week. Everyone was very excited about the promo which was awesome! A month later they approached us to make a short film to play during a concert of one of the most popular hard core duo’s Gunz for Hire. The producers from CRAFT arrange several Dutch celebraties such as Tygo Gernandt and Hugo Metsers to star in the film which was very cool. They also got in some free fighters who did a great job creating a realistic fighting scene. I must add that they arranged all these men the day before the shoot.
Erwan (D.O.P.) created a beautiful look&feel on this film giving it a realistic dark approach. If you want to see the film you’ll have go to their concert 🙂 In the meantime check out the trailer

Last year I was approached by singer Gianna Tam to make a music video for her new single “Anything”. Gianna Tam, Erwan van Buuren (camera man) and I came up with this concept for the clip, which is pretty different than what we’re used to seeing these days. We were really missing the old fashioned music video’s with little stories and gimmicks, so we thought we’d bring it back. We decided to not go for a flashy clip, but focus on our story telling. Filmed on the Arri Alexa camera in one day at the producers (Chiem van Houweninge) home…. and his neighbors house of course. 😉
We filmed the video in November and it was released in March, because Gianna participated in “The Voice of Holland” where she signed a contract not to release any of her own music up till 6 months after the show.
Hope you like the video 🙂

So here it is! After a successful release party in club Jimmy Woo, where they also showed the video, it’s now finally online! Jennifer Cooke – Ik Zou Niet Weten Hoe.
Thanks again to all the sponsors and crew who helped making the video 🙂

Don’t forget to put the settings to HD 😉

Last Friday I directed and produced a music video for Jennifer Cooke “Ik zou niet weten hoe”. It’s a song dedicated to the girls in India that were taken out of child prostitution and human trading and given a home and shelter by the Stichting Stop Kindermisbruik (Foundation Stop Child Abuse). Jennifer was there last month to teach the girls street dance and bonded with them immediately. Inspired by all that she was experiencing she wrote a song. Shortly after, she contacted me from India and we spoke of making a music video as soon as she got back.
I called around trying to see who would want to participate and sponsor the video and surprisingly companies were very interested and I also managed to get a crew together within a week. Cameraman Bas Andries, gaffer Bart van Tunen and their team were awesome. We shot on the Sony PMW-F3 super 35mm camera with ultra prime lenses and it looks great!

Thank you everyone for doing such a great job! …. now off to the cutting floor 😉

Biscuits is a short comedy about a man trying to enjoy his early morning coffee with biscuits, but gets interrupted
by a hot shot business man who keeps on stealing his biscuits. He takes on the challenge to a duel of honour by who can eat the most biscuits.
I had great fun working on this project and would like to thank the crew for their help, inspiration and creativity!
Hugs, Gabriel.

Last Tuesday I was asked to direct a branding/ corporate film for a company that sells car parts. Sounds exciting, right?
Well what they wanted was a short film 4-5 minutes where we see a drag race between a motorcycle and a car… Hollywood style – fast pace – stunts and action! 😉 … Wow! cool assignment!
We had a free style motorbike champion (you know the ones that do all the fancy stuff in the air) and one of the stuntmen from James Bond’s last film and the Bourne Ultimatum! We filmed on the RED camera and also had a canon 7D and 3 GoPro mini camera’s to mount on the car and motor bike. Besides that we had a crane mounted on a truck with a Flight Head (remote camera head) so we could swirl around the cars while driving.
The only tricky part is that we had to do it all within a week! … like … stress!
Blue Dolphin did an great job producing the film and everyone worked their butts off to get it finished in time. Good job guys! The client is happy and Sunday it will be playing at a conference in a stand that will be transformed into a mini movie theater.
Soon I’ll be able to put it online for you guys to see. 😉 Until then, here are a few stills.

Did a reshoot for biscuits yesterday. It’s funny cause we filmed Biscuits early fall where there were green trees in the background. Luckily for this shoot we only needed some close up shots and extreme close ups, cause we only had snow snow and more snow. It worked out great! Can’t wait to finish the film! 🙂

At the moment I’m in post production of my short film “Biscuits”.

A three minute comedy about two business men dueling over a pack of biscuits!  That’s basically it! Written by Steve Park, Director of photography Erwan van Buuren and Produced by Blue Dolphin Entertainment.

It was a rather rough day, because we ran into some camera problems. We were shooting on the SI-2K camera which runs on Microsoft windows eeeeks!! Great image but had bit of bad luck resulting in a 2 hour delay. Am in editing phase now seeing if I have all the shots. If not, we’ll just have to do a few pick ups. So far it’s looking great! I constantly have to laugh about the lead actor Hugo Konings who is hilarious! Check out this picture below! 😉

Finally we finished the music videos for
It’s basically a website where music producers of dance music can go shop for a music video that fits their song. I directed 4 video’s that are now up for sail on the website so go check it out. It was especially very cool to work with my two friends Chewing and Remco who are kung fu experts! I made my student film with them as well so it was kinda like a reunion! 😉

Here are some stills.

Here’s the making of a Music Video I shot in Barcelona for LaidBack Luuke. It was a very intense 2 days of hard work, but the crew was great. They worked the last day from 6am till 1am next day!! amazing!
I’m not satisfied with the final version the client chose for so I’ll be making a directors cut. Soon only to be seen on my showreel, yah!

Don’t know whether it’s my radio alarm clock or just the mood I’m am that I can subconsciously carry a tune in my head for an entire day. Several times already I find myself singing a song from the Dutch band Blof. Last week I worked for them again filming mood videos of a Music Festival called “Concert at Sea” which they organize each year. It’s always nice hanging out with such talented people 🙂 I just love it when they take out there guitars and just start jamming…so nice.
Anyway here’s the song that I was talking about. It’s called “Dansen aan Zee” (dansing by the sea). This is the Duet version with Portugese Fado singer Cristina Branco… absolutely brilliant.

Hey viewers of my extremely successful blog! Just wanted to thank you guys for all the fan mail and love you’ve been giving me for over the past 2 years. 😛
I thought it would be cool to do things in an old fashion sort of way and type a message instead of all that rich media kasssschmoof. First of all, I just wanted to say I totally had it with Dating Sites! After the breakup with In-Ah I thought it would be cool to sign up to a few dating sites and I must say from moment “numero uno” it has been a disaster! I had a few dates, but the problem is that everybody picks the uber best of the best if not extremely photoshopped picture and uploads it to their dating profile. This results is the most shocking first date moments when you think to yourself… “you nasty cheat!” Although at the same time I have taken at least 30 pictures from 30 different angles of my own face in order to achieve a “worthy photo” for my dating profile, so ironic isn’t it? … the angle from the top works brilliant for me btw. 🙂
Anyway, after half a year I didn’t pay much attention to these sites, but up till this day I’m being spammed like crazy with all these new “perfect matches” they’ve found for me! Very nice guys but no thanks! I try to cancel my accounts, but it’s not possible. Bastards! So someone please help me get rid of these “perfect match” spam messages! aargh! All those dozens of photoshopped soul mates haunting my inbox!
So for a long time I hung out in bars and clubs instead of trying my luck with the shock dates. Doing alot of drinking, going out till 6am in the weekends …week after week…same old thang. The amount of energy I had was crazy! I just kept on going like one of those Duracil Bunnies! I was so restless.

But now I think I’ve had enough. After almost 2 years of non stop partying I’m finally pooped. The veil has fallen and the old Gabriel is visible again. Well, not exactly the old Gabriel, because this one appears to be way more confident and a little more odd. Am happy!… happy to be me. Happy to wake up every morning and sing my way rolling to the shower and prepare myself for the new challenges and gifts of the day. Cause all those obstacles we encounter all the time, all those problems that most of us experience as negative events, we should see as challenges. The challenges and trials in life that are there to help us grow as human beings. If every day would only be about having fun and feeling happy … how would we be able to grow? This simple thought has made my life a hell lot easier I can tell ya that 😉
oops gotta go, till next time! hugx Gabriel.

Been working on a promo film for MTV the past few weeks. MTV is trying to get more youth into the theaters so they’ve been co-producing several plays over the last couple of years. I got hired to direct a promo/trailer for their latest play and make it snapping and attractive for the pop culture target group. While doing the Color Correction on my FCP set at home, my cameraman Erwan dropped by to help out. I just love what we accomplished with this shot of Birgit Schuurman (Dutch singer/actress). Am lovin’ those color!

And the end result:

I love shooting little promo (backstage) films for Balmain Hair. Not only do you have the nice styling, beautiful models and the photo shoot dynamics, but there’s always a good atmosphere. nice people that is.
This time around I had ages to finish this backstage edit… so I took my time and went online to find new Final Cut Pro plugin packages for new looks and filters! and man! did I geek out! I think I have this thing for horizontal lens flares, I don’t know what is! “the more flares the better!!!! raaahh!!!”. I’ll upload the film to my showreel page soon so you can see the final “geeked out” product, but here are a view still images of the film, after I totally filtered the shit out of them!! 😉

Ok… so as I said in an earlier post that I had this Damien Rice song haunting me for the last 2 months and it started to really bug me, so apparently it must have been a sign! “I must free myself from this curse for once and for all!”, I said. So then came another “TalentShow” that my singing school organizes twice a year. This talent show gives singers the chance to sing solos. I thought, “Yes! this is my chance!!!” “muuahaha!!”. I found a karaoke version online of Blower’s Daughter, which is a beautiful instrumental version I must say, and I performed it in front of an audience filled with music teachers and other fellow singing pupils. The good thing about this is that the audience is always super duper quiet. perfect for a ballad… though of course,… I was nervous…and I sang a bit off key 🙁 … but oh well, at least I did it.

You guys might know the song from the soundtrack of “Closer” (cool movie), Damien Rice’s “Blowers Daughter”. Found an acoustic version on YouTube check it out:
